Mixed-Use Development Potential

Accelerating Discovery and Fueling Growth in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Defense Industries.

The Lowell Innovation Network Corridor (LINC) is more than a location, it’s a launchpad for innovation in defense and national security technology. Located at the heart of the $50B New England Defense Industrial Base, LINC is where top-tier academic, industry, and government leaders converge for collaborations that are driving innovation and talent in mission-critical development.

POWERING NEW ENGLAND’S DEFENSE INDUSTRIAL BASE

LINC is purpose-built to serve as the strategic nucleus of New England’s Defense Industrial Base (DIB), a vast and dynamic ecosystem that fuels U.S. military readiness through innovation, collaboration, talent development, and mission-critical weapons systems, subsystems, and components.

LINC is uniquely positioned to connect and catalyze a cohesive network of government agencies, tier 1 suppliers, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), small and medium-sized businesses, and university partners.

Through the UMass Lowell Applied Research Corporation’s Partnership Intermediary Agreements with Hanscom Air Force Base and the Army Research Lab, the HEROES program with the U.S. Army DEVCOM Soldier Center, and other partnerships with the services, the university drives innovation in soldier protection, performance, and advanced technologies, making LINC a prime location for defense companies.

UMass Lowell is a Top 100 U.S. News & World Report Public University nationally, and a national Carnegie Research 1 (R1) university, with 17,500 students and 2,400 faculty and staff across Bachelor’s, Master’s and Ph.D. programs, with more than half of students enrolled in STEM degree programs.

HOME TO A TOP-TIER RESEARCH UNIVERSITY AND ACCESS TO A SKILLED WORKFORCE PIPELINE

UMass Lowell’s Core Research Facilities (CRF) provide industry with access to state-of-the-art laboratories, specialized equipment, and expert staff to accelerate innovation.

From nanofabrication and advanced textiles to robotics, materials testing, and biotechnology, the CRF offers companies the tools they need to prototype, test, and scale new technologies. These shared labs are designed to support collaboration between academia, industry, and government, helping businesses reduce R&D costs and bring cutting-edge solutions to market faster.

With one of the nation’s leading undergraduate cooperative education programs and 150 Ph.D.s awarded annually, UMass Lowell’s proven talent pipeline is a key driver of LINC’s value proposition for R&D employers. LINC partners will have preferred access to UMass Lowell students for entry-level hiring, internships, co-ops and capstone projects.
